Curriculum
SDC offers a variety of classes taught by highly qualified instructors.

Toddlers - (Ages 2 – 4)
Dress Code – Any color leotard and tights, dark tan U-shell Revolution tap shoes with buckle strap and pink Revolution all leather split sole ballet slippers (to be ordered through the dance center). Hair tied back. Students will need a dance bag to carry their ballet slippers into class. No Toys or Dolls in dance bags.
Male Students – Sweat pants or sweat shorts, T-shirt or Tank Shirt, black patent leather tie up tap shoes (see instructor for recommendations) and black Revolution all leather split sole ballet slippers.
Dancers should be out of diapers.

Acro - (Ages 5 & Older)
Students will learn the fundamentals in acrobatics, combining the classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. Training includes a warmup to target the different muscles and ligaments in the body, that will be used during exercises to gain better flexibility, balance, motor coordination, as well as, strengthening and agility skills, all taught with proper technique and safety in mind.
Acro is more seamlessly integrating these acrobatic movements into dance choreography, enhancing the artistic expression of the dance.
Dress Code - Students are to wear leggings, spandex shorts and form fitting shirts. NO Baggy Attire. NO Lotions. NO Jewelry. Hair in a ponytail.
Male Students - T-Shirt or Tank Shirt, and Joggers for Track Pants.
Footwear - Barefoot.

Classical Ballet - (Ages 5 & Older)
Ballet provides the foundation for all styles of dance and helps develop grace, discipline, confidence and proper body alignment. Class consists of barre work, center floor, including adagio, allegro and progressions. Our ballet program follows the Cecchetti Method. Pointe classes are offered for qualified students. (Recommendation from instructor).
Dress Code – Black leotard; (NO attached skirts or decorations on leotard), and pink tights. Hair must be in a secure bun with bobbie pins and a hair net. This is strictly enforced. Students will not be permitted to participate in class without required attire and a secure bun.
Male Students – Sweat pants or sweat shorts, white T-shirt or tank shirt and black Revolution all leather split sole ballet slippers, (advanced level students, see instructor for shoe requirement).
Footwear - Ballet Levels Kinder, I-V - Require light pink - "So Danca - Bliss" stretch canvas split sole, style #SD16, (to be ordered online).

Hip Hop - (Ages 5 & Older)
This class comprises a blend of today's high energy street movements, typically performed to popular hip hop music. Class consists of warm ups, isolations and progressions eventually forming a routine.
Dress Code – Sweat pants, leggings with t-shirt. Ball caps may be worn.
NO SHORTS or SKORTS permitted.
Hair must be tied back.
Male Students – Sweat pants or sweat shorts, T-shirt or Tank Shirt,
(see office personnel for details).
Hip Hop Levels I - Black/White - Converse Chuck Taylor "MID SLIP ON" Sneaker.
*Shoelaces > Inmaker No Tie Laces - (to be ordered on Amazon)
Hip Hop Level II-V - All Black Nike V5 RNR Sneaker.

Jazz - (Ages 5 & Older)
Styles from Broadway – LA are taught bringing the students a variety of techniques in jazz. Class consists of warm ups, isolations, balancing and strengthening exercises and progressions, eventually forming a routine. Ballet is required for advanced level jazz classes.
Dress Code - Sports Top or form fitting Shirt, Leggings, Joggers, Track Pants or Spandex Bike Shorts, (Leggings are preferred). NO SKIRTS or SKORTS. Hair must be tied back.
Male Students - T-Shirt or Tank Shirt, Sweat Pants or Track Pants and black Bloch Neo Flex slip-on jazz shoes.
Footwear - Jazz Level I–V - Requires tan Bloch Neo Flex slip-on jazz shoes, style#S0495L

Lyrical & Contemporary - (Ages 5 & Older) - (must be enrolled in Ballet)
Contemporary styles are taught to show extension and balance, as well as showing an interpretation of the music. Class consists of warm ups, isolations, balancing and strengthening exercises and progressions, eventually forming a routine.
Ballet is required for Lyrical levels I, II, & III and Contemporary.
Dress Code - Sports Top or form fitting Shirt, Leggings, Joggers, Track Pants or Spandex Bike Shorts, (Leggings are preferred). NO SKIRTS or SKORTS. Hair must be tied back.
Male Students - T-Shirt or Tank Shirt, Sweat Pants or Track Pants.
Footwear for Lyrical - Barefoot
Footwear for Contemporary - Barefoot

Musical Theatre - (Ages 5 & up) - (must be currently enroll in Ballet and/or Jazz at SDC)
Class consists of exercises displaying movement and character portrayal in which dancing play an essential part, along with acting and lip syncing.
Dress Code - Sports Top or form fitting Shirt, Leggings, Joggers, Track Pants or Spandex Bike Shorts, (Leggings are preferred). NO SKIRTS or SKORTS. Hair must be tied back.
Male Students - T-Shirt or Tank Shirt, Sweat Pants or Track Pants.
Footwear - The required footwear may change mid season once dance style is selected. Until selection is made, dancers are to wear tan Bloch Neo Flex slip-on jazz shoes, style #S0495L (adult) or #S0495G (child), (to be ordered online).


Tap - (Ages 5 & Older)
Our tap program allows students to learn the fundamentals of tap by working rhythms and coordination exercises. Class consists of warm ups, center floor exercises and progressions, eventually forming a routine.
Dress Code – Sports Top or form fitting Shirt, Leggings, Joggers, Track Pants or Spandex Bike Shorts, (Leggings are preferred). NO SKIRTS or SKORTS. Hair must be tied back.
Male Students - T-Shirt or Tank Shirt, Sweat Pants or Track Pants and black patent leather tie-up tap shoes,
(see instructor for recommendations).

SDC Company - (Recommendation from SDC Director)
SDC Company is an elite group of dancers. These dancers are selected by the director and are required to spend at least four or more hours per week in classes and rehearsals depending on the company level. Members of the SDC Company excel in different subjects; therefore, schedules may differ.
Summer classes and the SDC Boot Camp are required for all Company Members and prospective Company Members. Director will evaluate all members for proper level placement during the summer session. *If applying after summer evaluations have been completed, a private audition and interview may be scheduled, however, the Director may recommend training for the upcoming season at SDC and waiting for the next summer evaluation.
